A “Shit Hits The Fan” event doesn’t have to be apocalyptic in nature.

It can also be an event that disrupts your world of gainful employment.

I worked in the Civilian Contractor (Middle East) world for about 3 years. When I get asked what it’s like to have lived in that world I always say the office politics were Savage and Medieval.

My pal James Price at Death Valley Magazine just wrote a great article about how to not only help you survive a workplace SHTF event, but to also thrive in it.

There are men in this world who are extra-ordinary. Men who are on their “Own Program”.

This rare breed of man lives outside of the so called main-stream society.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have lived among this group of real life” most interesting men.”

These men have an exciting view on life that most do not. If I could sum it up in one word, that word would be freedom. Real freedom. They have thrown off their societal chains and jumped off the escalator of life. They are running freely through the station and enjoying every minute of it.

Are there more men such as this? Yes…a lot more. However, our society stifles the adventurous spirit of young men today.

I often hear women say they can’t find a good man. That’s because they aren’t here working 9-5 jobs in cubicles or an assembly line. The interesting men are on their adventure pushing their limit. Living out on of a backpack in the open air and in some cases carrying a rifle through a war zone.

Author Chuck Palahniuk best describes the state of men in our society today in his book “Fight Club.”

“I see in the fight club the strongest and smartest men who’ve ever lived. I see all this potential and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables, slaves with white collars, advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of the history man, no purpose or place, we have no Great war, no Great depression, our great war is a spiritual war, our great depression is our lives, we’ve been all raised by television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars, but we won’t and we’re slowly learning that fact. and we’re very, very pissed off.”

I recommend you check out two such men of action and adventure. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll get inspired enough to go on your own adventure. Get on your own program. After all, this is your life and it’s ending one minute at a time.

Be warned! Well traveled, seasoned men of adventure such as these have a sense of humor that will seem dark to the uninitiated and inexperienced. It will be sure to violate the delicate sensibilities of certain persons.
