FBI Statistics reveal that there are around 33,000 violent street gangs, motorcycle gangs, and prison gangs with about 1.4 million members are criminally active in the U.S. today. Many are sophisticated and well organized; all use violence to control neighborhoods and boost their illegal money-making activities, which include robbery, drug and gun trafficking, fraud, extortion, and prostitution rings.
According to the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report, gangs are responsible for an average of 48 percent of violent crime in most jurisdictions, and up to 90 percent in others.
In the event of grid down situation, people living in cities, or even immediate suburbs, will be HIGHLY at risk from foraging gangs.
Most of us have some type of plan to protect ourselves and family from an intruder who intends harm. But how will you protect yourself and your family from an organized gang of intruders? Knowledge of how they will operate is the first step.
Even in normal, good times (today) the criminal gangs are well armed with weapons, have honed their criminal skills, and are not afraid to use them. Any event that causes the rule of law to become non-existent would just open up a larger hunting ground for the criminal minded.
The people who live in higher population density will have the most to worry about.
These gangs are not to be underestimated. Many are sophisticated and well organized and all use violence to control their victims.
